Poll Dorset Flock Number 48 was founded by the Russell family in the Wimmera district of Victoria in 1956, using a strong influence of top sires from Valma Poll Dorset Stud in Tasmania.
In 1979, together with their cropping operation, the present owners Doug & Robyn Russell took on ownership of the Stud, changing the name to “Banyenong West”, and sourcing the top genetics available in Australia.
Over the years, the Russells have been passionate about combining performance recording (Lambplan) together with the Show Ring, developing sheep that continue to improve breed standards and commercial attributes, thus producing both “Quality & Performance” for the prime lamb industry.
After much consideration the Russell family have decided it is time to scale back their farming operations in particular their livestock enterprise. Therefore a full flock dispersal will be held in August 2010, providing a once in a life time opportunity for breeders to purchase top quality Poll Dorset progeny.
